$9,000 a month walking out the door, one stamp at a time

“We were driving to the post office with armloads of mail and guessing at postage. ADS put in a system that does it from one desk and we stopped overpaying overnight.”

Operations Manager
, Regional distributor

A Sussex County distributor was sending hundreds of invoices, statements, and parcels every week, and doing it the hard way. Staff hand-stamped, guessed at weight, and made a standing run to the post office that ate hours nobody could spare.

The problem

Overpaying on postage is the kind of leak that never shows up on a single line item, so it never gets fixed. They were applying first-class stamps to pieces that qualified for lower rates, missing presort discounts entirely, and had no way to see what any department was actually spending to send mail.

What we did

We installed an FP mailing system that weighs each piece, applies the exact correct postage, and shops carrier rates automatically. Outbound mail now runs from one desk, with no post office line and no guesswork. The platform tracks spend by department so the operations manager can finally see where the money goes.

The result

Postage dropped by roughly a fifth in the first month, the weekly post-office run disappeared, and the company stopped subsidizing the USPS by accident. The same person now processes the whole day’s mail before lunch.

“It’s the boring kind of savings,” the manager laughed, “the kind that just shows up every single month and never stops.”
